Govt notifies fixed charges, massive hike in electricity price on domestic users

The federal government has notified a significant hike in the basic electricity tariff as well as also imposed fixed charges, reported 24NewsHD TV channel SUnday.
Effective immediately, the tariff has been increased by Rs 7 to Rs 12 per unit, depending on usage.
According to a notification from the Power Division, domestic consumers using up to 200 units per month will be exempt from this increase for the next three months. For all other domestic consumers, the basic electricity tariff will rise by Rs 7.12 per unit.
With this adjustment, the new basic electricity tariff for domestic consumers will now stand at Rs 48.84 per unit. Consumers using between 201 and 300 units will see their tariff increase by Rs 7.12, bringing the new rate to Rs 34.26 per unit.
For those using between 301 and 400 units, the tariff will increase by Rs 7.02, resulting in a new rate of Rs 39.15 per unit. Lastly, consumers using between 401 and 500 units will face an increase of Rs 6.12, setting the new rate at Rs 41.36 per unit.
The federal government has also imposed fixed charges on electricity bills for consumers, with a notification issued detailing the charges .
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, as per the notification, household consumers will have to pay monthly fixed charges ranging from Rs200 to Rs1,000.
Consumers with an approved load exceeding 5 kW will be required to pay Rs 1,000 as fixed charges.
For approved loads below 5 kW, fixed charges will be applied in slabs.
For consumption between 301 to 400 units, a fixed charge of Rs 200 will be imposed.
For consumption between 401 to 500 units, a fixed charge of Rs 400 will be imposed.
For consumption between 501 to 600 units, a fixed charge of Rs 600 will be imposed.
For consumption between 601 to 700 units, a fixed charge of Rs 800 will be imposed.
For consumption exceeding 700 units, a fixed charge of Rs 1,000 will be imposed.
From July onwards, household consumers will be billed these fixed charges monthly.
On June 21, the channel reproted that the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) sent a summary to the government for approval, proposing fixed charges ranging from Rs200 to Rs1000 for domestic consumers.
The channel also reported that if the government does not approve the summary within a month, NEPRA will implement the summary automatically.
According to the summary, from July onwards, domestic consumers will be required to pay these fixed charges every month.
