On the instructions of IG Punjab Dr Usman Anwar security of funeral processions, congregations and assemblies held in connection with Muharram has been increased, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.
According to the spokesperson of Punjab Police, today, 3803 majlis are being held across Punjab including Lahore and 1375 funeral processions are being held.
The spokesperson of Punjab Police said that more than 56800 police officers and personnel have been deployed across the province today for the security of the sacred programs of Muharram,
Punjab Police Spokesman further said that more than 25,000 officers and personnel have been deployed for the security of 3,803 Majlis held in all districts.
More than 31,000 officers and personnel have been deployed for the security of 1375 funeral processions.
Today, 98 processions and 424 majalis including 45 A-category majalis will held in the provincial capital, Punjab Police Spokesman said.
More than 6000 officers and officials will perform security duties of the seventh Muharram in Lahore.
Traffic Police, CTD, Special Branch and volunteers are also providing assistance in the security of the gatherings and processions, said Punjab Police spokesperson.
IG Punjab instructed RPOs and DPOs to monitor Muharram security arrangements themselves.
IG Punjab said that police should be on high alert and there should be no compromise on the security of congregations, processions and mourners.
Dr Usman Anwar instructed that control rooms and CCTV cameras should be used to monitor the security arrangements of congregations and processions from moment to moment.
