Punjab allocates Rs42.5b for school education in 2024 budget

The Punjab government has announced a substantial allocation of Rs42.5 billion for the school education department in the fiscal year 2024-25, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Thursday.


This budget aims to enhance the quality of education through various development schemes and programs.


A significant portion, Rs 6.87 billion, has been dedicated to ongoing development projects, ensuring their timely completion. Additionally, Rs 2.6 million has been earmarked for the upgradation of schools across the province.


The Chief Minister has allocated Rs 500 million for a school food program to improve nutritional standards for students. Moreover, Rs 13.76 billion has been set aside for a variety of new development initiatives aimed at bolstering the educational infrastructure.


To further support education, Rs 5.5 billion has been designated for outsourcing schools, while Rs 2.62 billion will fund schools operating under public-private partnerships. The Danish School Authority is set to receive Rs 2.5 billion for its operations.


In an effort to support after-school programs, Rs 1.83 billion has been reserved for afternoon schools. Additionally, Rs 28 crore has been allocated to manage ongoing court cases involving the education sector.


To enhance educational resources, Rs 13.7 million will be used to make the Children's Library Complex in Lahore fully operational.
