Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Saturday said the ruling party was determined to form a new province but did not have a two-third majority for the required constitutional amendment.
Urging both PML-N and PTI lawmakers from the region to unite on the issue, he said there was a need to move forward to implement the party manifesto promise.
Addressing a press conference in Multan on Saturday, Qureshi said no decision had been taken on establishing the Bahawalpur province.
He noted that there were options – consensus or a majority-based decision. He said the majority decided the matters in democracy in case there was no consensus.
In the given scenario, he said the process of reaching a decision while keeping in mind the two options could take some time.
