Prime Minister Imran Khan has bought 24 hours to address the concerns of Pakistan Muslim League-Q, a key government ally, at the reopening cases by the National Accountability Bureau, sources said on Wednesday.

Federal Minister for Housing and Works Tariq Bashir Cheema called on Prime Minister Imran Khan to give the premier the message of PML-Q chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain.

Insiders revealed that Tariq questioned reopening 20-year-old cases by NAB and called for removing the ally party’s reservations.

The PML-Q leaders Ch Shujaat and Parvez Elahi last week approached the Lahore High Court against the bureau over reopening the cases. They alleged the bureau was an institution of political engineering and raised questions on its investigative authority.

They made a request to the court for declaring the reopening of illegal. Punjab Assembly Speaker Parvez Elahi appeared before the two-member LHC bench.

They said the courts earlier ruled on the NAB's role and erroneous methods of investigation. “In the year 2000, the then chairman of the respondent bureau proceeded to authorise investigation against the petitioners on the allegations of misuse of authority, assets beyond means and wilful default under the National Accountability Ordinance 1999.”
