The statue of Capt Karnal Sher Khan Shaheed was destroyed by the violent Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf activists during the protest following PTI chairman Imran Khan’s arrest.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, Captain Sher Khan was posthumously awarded Pakistan's highest gallantry award, the Nishan-e-Haider, for his actions during the Kargil Conflict with India in 1999. The following is the official statement by the Pakistan Army: "Captain Karnal Sher Khan emerged as the symbol of mettle and courage during the Kargil conflict on the Line of Control (LoC). He set personal examples of bravery and inflicted heavy losses on the enemy. He defended the five strategic posts and repulsed many Indian attacks. After many abortive attempts, the enemy on July 5 rang the post of Capt. Sher Khan tried to re-capture the lost post. But during the course, he was hit by machine-gun fire and embraced Shahadat.
Brigadier M.P.S. Bajwa was in charge of capturing Tiger Hill and it was Captain Khan's persistence that made things tough for the Indian Army.
I, thereafter, through civilian porters, got Captain Khan’s body down from Tiger Hill. After a search, we found letters written by his wife in Urdu. The Captain had really fought bravely,” Bajwa said.
Before dispatching the body to Delhi, he informed his General Officer Commanding of Khan’s bravery. He expressed the desire to write a small letter of appreciation and citation — that Captain Khan had fought very bravely and must be given his due recognition.
He stopped mutilating and insulting and ordered sandalwood from home and put it on Sher Khan's beard and put a slip in the pocket of Sher Khan Shaheed, on which it was written, "As the Indian Corps Commander, I recommend the government of Pakistan to mark this brave young man." May Nishan-e-Haider be blessed to him.
Pakistan Army in recognition of his immortal services installed his statue.
Unfortunately, PTI followers first cut off the head of the statue of Sher Khan and then destroyed the statue into pieces. PTI leaders including Imran Khan did not even feel sorry for this action.
