Islamic scholar Maulana Abdul Qawi's recent remarks have ignited a new controversy in which he claimed that girls come to hotels themselves and he does not invite them.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, Maulana Abdul Qawi expressed girls difficulties in arranging meetings with scholars and politicians while highlighting the ease of meeting with him.
During an interview on the programme "Jani Ki Chah" on 24 News, he answered the question of host Sajjad Jani that he has never sent a marriage proposal to anyone.
He also clarified that he never asked any ancher to invite him to his or her TV show, and those girls coming to hotels do so of their own volition.
Responding to a query, Maulana Abdul Qawi termed a meeting of people [especially girls] with politicians like [Sher Afzal] Marwat, [Pervaiz] Khattak, or Barrister [Gohar] or religious scholars, including Muftis, extremely challenging, whereas meeting with him is relatively easy.
Maulana Abdul Qawi also emphasised his status, mentioning how people recognise him wherever he goes and often take selfies with him.
He further remarked that this is not a matter of whether other Islamic scholars and muftis are famous like him or not, but it is a fact that others will not pick up the phone if someone calls them, but he will.
In response to recent allegations, Maulana Abdul Qawi clarified that the girl who came to his hotel was addressed as his daughter five times, but anchors took this meeting in the wrong direction.
When the anchor questioned him about the photos of the hotel incident, Maulana Qawi explained that while he was sitting on a sofa, a lady was taking pictures through glass, creating an illusion as if she was lying on his chest.
He asserted that he never makes inappropriate statements, and the photos shared by Qandeel Sahiba were indeed taken in his presence from three to four feet away, but the camera angle created an illusion of proximity.
Regarding Qandeel's visit, he mentioned that she came seeking his assistance to meet his leader Imran Khan and upon calling, the PTI founder promptly answered the phone on the third ring.
