Prime Minister Shehabz Sharif has resigned as the president of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), a couple of weeks after senior party leaders urged Quaid Nawaz Sharif to lead the party, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday, quoting its sources.

According to the sources, the meeting of the Central Working Committee (CWC) of the PML-N has been called on May 18 (Saturday) at 11:30 at 180-H Block of Model Town in Lahore.

The Majlis-e-Amila meeting was called under Article 15 of the party constitution and the notice of the meeting was sent to all the party members.

The nomination of the acting party president will be made in the Majlis-e-Amila meeting. PML-N CWC will nominate Nawaz Sharif as the new party president.

PML-N General Council will ratify Nawaz Sharif's presidency on May 28, the sources added.
