Pakistan cricketer Hassan Ali's wife has denied the rumours of her family receiving death threats in the wake of Pakistan's elimination from the T20 World Cup on Thursday. The Men in Green were beaten by Australia in a nail-biting semi-final.

Hassan dropped a catch by Matthew Wade which was described as the 'turning point' of the game by Pakistan captain Babar Azam in the post-match press conference. Following Pakistan's exit from the tournament, Hassan was a victim of online abuse.

However, his wife Samiya Arzoo refuted rumours that the family was getting death threats. She wrote on her Instagram story, "Saw many tweets circulating from this fake account that I, Hassan and my daughter are getting threats from people from Pakistan, which is absolutely wrong. Instead, we’ve seen tons of support”.

She clarified that it was a fake account that was spreading rumours and asked people to report the account.

"Please don’t believe any such statements and don’t follow any accounts on Twitter pretending to be me. I am not on Twitter. Please report the accounts claiming to be me," said Hassan Ali's wife.

At the time when Hassan dropped Matthew Wade's catch of a delivery from Shaheen Afridi, Australia needed 20 runs to win in 10 balls. However, that moment completely changed the direction of the game as Wade smashed Afridi's next three balls over the stands to seal Australia's place in the final.

Hassan also had a forgettable day with the bowl and failed to capitalise on the pressure built by Afridi and Shadab Khan on the Australian batsmen. He was Pakistan's most expensive bowler on the day as his four overs cost 44 runs without any wicket.

Pakistan were unbeaten in the Super 12 stage as they won all their five games in the group including victories against arch-rivals India and Australia's opponent in final, New Zealand.
