The trucks failed to deliver the imported wheat to the flour mills due to the implementation of the axle load management rule, the 24News HD TV channel reported.
It was stated that two ships from Russia and another from Romania containing 150000 tons of wheat are being offloaded at both ports of Karachi.
Following the Axle load management regime, no trucks are being loaded with the wheat as the rule constricts the weight carried on the trucks.
The delivery of edible oil, iron and other goods has stopped due to axle load rule.
The flour mills reps said that the number of trucks will have to be doubled for the transportation of such large quantities of wheat as the trucks which carried 6000 sacks are only allowed to carry 3300 sacks as per the axle load rule. They said that they have not received the delivery of a single truck in the last 48 hours.
It was also stated that doubling the trucks will ultimately increase the prices of wheat.
The President of All Iron Merchants Association Hammad Poonawala said that the notification issued by the National Highway and Motorway police allows 27 tons including the weight of the vehicle.
He said that a 10-wheeler loader vehicle weighs around 15 tons and even a small coil of the imported iron takes the weight up to 35 tons. We have to pay an extra Rs1000 per ton over the allowed limit. It is impossible to load the imported goods from the ports.
