Amid arrival of VIP guests and foreign dignitaries, Islamabad’s capital police have chalked out a revised traffic plan during October 14-16 on the occasion of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
According to spokesperson, there will be complete ban on the entry of heavy traffic in Islamabad while several roads will remain closed during the movement of guests. More than 585 personnel will perform duty on different routes as traffic diversions have also been made for the movement of VVIPs and VIPs.
The diversions will be made from Koral Chowk, Rawat T. Cross, Kak Bridge for heavy traffic, PSO pump Swan Garden, Judicial Colony Gulberg, Koral bus stop, Koral Chowk service road, Aabpara picket, Faizabad I-8 side, Faizabad Murree Road, Ojri turn, Ojri village, Embassy Lodges U turn, Sports Complex turn, Best Western Hotel, Rawal Dam Chowk overhead bridge, Kashmir Chowk, Al Hayat Hotel U-turn, Dhokri at Suharwardi Road, Radio Pakistan Chowk and Secretariat Chowk.
In emergency case, diversion will be made from Kachnar Park, Garden flyover Shakarparian side, Garden Bridge under west side, Garden Bridge under east side, AGPR loop, H-8 roundabout, ADBP loop Faisal Avenue, Suharwardi loop Faisal Avenue, Pakistan Monument loop, Chand Tara Iqbal hall side, Chand Tara overhead bridge, Pak China Friendship side, Toyota Motor loop, Chand Tara underpass east side, Chand Tara underpass west side, Yasmeen Garden, Aabpara Chowk Kashmir Highway, Suharwardi loop in and out, Dhokri Kashmir Highway and the SP city office u-turn Suharwardi Road.
According to another plan, diversion plans can be made from the old toll plaza, Taxila loop, motorway office loop, GT Road side, Haji Camp side, underpass Chungi No 26 east, underpass Chungi No 26 west side, motorway loop Mobeen Hotel, Islamabad Chowk loop No 1, Islamabad Chowk overhead bridge, Islamabad Chowk overhead bridge Rawalpindi side, Katchra turn, G-11 U-turn, G-11 signal, G-11 signal Nust University side, G-11 signal Service Road, Police Lines CPO side, Nescom Chowk, Police Lines Chowk U-turn, Police Lines Chowk, Project Mor Srinagar Highway, Project Mor Chowk No 2, G-9 turn, PWD Chowk, Peshawar Mor flyover 9th Avenue side, Peshawar Mor flyover Parc side, AGPR loop, T&T loop, Fiazabad underpass, Garden toward Zero Point, ADBP loop Faisal Avenue, Suharwardi loop Faisal Avenue, Pakistan Monument loop, Chand Tara Iqbal Hall side, Chand Tara overhead bridge Pak-China Friendship side, Toyota Motor loop, Chand Tara underpass east side, Chand Tara underpass west side, Yasmeen Garden, Aabpara Srinagar Highway, Suharwardi loop, Dhokri Kashmir Highway, SP city office U-turn, Dhokari, old MNA Hostel, Radio Pakistan Chowk, Express Chowk and Secretariat Chowk.
In case of an emergency, diversion will be made at Khayaban roundabout, Kalsoom Plaza Jinnah Avenue in and out east and Express Chowk cross. Moreover, during the summit, traffic from Millat Road to Kashmir Chowk and Dhokri Serena Hotel will be closed. Traffic from Rawal Dam Chowk to Kashmir Chowk and Serena Malpur will also be closed. Similarly, traffic from Aabpara and Srinagar Highway to Serena will be blocked. Citizens traveling from Murree, Bhara Kahu to Rawalpindi can use Korang Road, left at Banigala, Park Road, Rawal Dam Chowk and Faizabad.
Those traveling from Faizabad to Bhara Kahu and Murree can use Park Road, Banigala, Korang Road as alternatives. People traveling from Srinagar Highway to Murree and Bhara Kahu should use Chand Tara Chowk, Pak-China Centre, Sports Complex via Murree Road, Park Road, Banigala and Korang Road. Heavy traffic from Peshawar to Lahore will use the Taxila motorway and Tarnol railway crossing to reach Fatehjang motorway. Similarly, heavy traffic from Lahore via GT Road to Islamabad and Rawalpindi will use Chak Beli Road to reach Chakri motorway.
Traffic from F-5, G-5, G-6 and Margalla Road towards Rawalpindi will be diverted via 9th Avenue. Traffic from Faisal Avenue heading towards Zero Point will also be redirected to 9th Avenue. Citizens traveling from Bhara Kahu to Rawalpindi should use Korang Road, Banigala and Lehtrar Road. Traffic from Rawalpindi to Islamabad will use 9th Avenue via Saddar and Murree Road.
Similarly, the expressway between Zero Point, Faisal Avenue and Koral Chowk will be closed and citizens can use the service road as an alternative. Those traveling from Colonel Sher Khan Road to Faizabad should use 9th Avenue from the Stadium Road signal. From October 14 to 16, all types of heavy traffic will be restricted from entering Islamabad.
