Federal Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi has assured Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar of a meeting with the party's founder, Imran Khan, who is currently imprisoned in Adiala Jail today, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.
According to the sources, this assurance came during a late-night phone call, where the interior minister promised that Barrister Gohar would be allowed to meet Imran Khan at Adiala Jail after 2 PM today.
The meeting is aimed at resolving tensions and withdrawing the planned PTI protest at D-Chowk, scheduled during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit on October 15-16.
The sources said Interior Minister Naqvi only confirmed a one-on-one meeting between Barrister Gohar and Imran Khan.
During the call, Barrister Gohar also requested that Imran Khan’s physician be granted permission to visit him.
Yesterday, PTI leaders stated that the protest would be postponed if party leaders were allowed to meet the former prime minister.
PTI’s core committee had linked the cancellation of the protest to the assurance of a meeting with Imran Khan by Monday.
Sheikh Waqas Akram, a prominent PTI leader, reiterated that the government would bear responsibility for any damage or loss of life if the protest took place.
