Justice Ali Baqar Najafi of the Lahore High Court (LHC) has been appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC), 24NewsHD TV Channel reported on Tuesday.
According to the notification issued by the Ministry of Law following approval from the President, Justice Najafi’s elevation to the apex court was formally confirmed. The Judicial Commission had earlier approved his nomination for the Supreme Court bench.
Born on 15 September 1963 in Lahore, Punjab, Justice Ali Baqar Najafi has served as a senior judge of the Lahore High Court since 16 April 2012. He is also a member of the Administration Committee of the Lahore High Court.
Justice Najafi graduated from Government College University, Lahore, and obtained his LLB degree from the University Law College, Punjab University, in 1989. He began practicing law the same year, becoming an advocate of the High Court and later of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
In addition to his legal practice spanning over two decades, Justice Najafi dedicated significant time to legal education. He served as a faculty member at Punjab University Law College for 12 years and taught at various private law colleges for 18 years. He also contributed as an internal and external examiner for the University of the Punjab and taught subjects such as public international law.
