The drug supply continued to thrive in Lahore as more than 5,000 people are addicts in the provincial capital, and 132 areas of the city have high addiction rates, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.
According to Advisor Drug Controller Program Zulfiquar Shah, the drug usage has risen at an alarming rate in both private gatherings and educational institutions.
This year, Lahore Police booked 8,777 drug dealers and drug peddlers and registered 8,654 cases hitherto.
More than 4,279 kg of Hashish, 55kg of heroin, 15kg and 677 grams of ice and 66,802 thousand liters of liquor were recovered from the possession of the accused, according to the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO).
The City Division Police apprehended 1,861, Cantt Police 1,843, and Civil Lines Police 860 drug dealers this year.
Similar to this, drug dealers were detained by the Sadar Division Police 1,613, Iqbal Town Police 978, and Model Town Division 1,622.
The Lahore Police instructed not to allow dug addicted and intoxicated people to camp on Green Belts underpasses, footpaths, and canal banks.
