Rahim Yar Khan (RYK) police registered a case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Mumtaz Mustafa for doing aerial firing outside the offices of the Assitant Returning Officer (ARO) and District Returning Officer (DRO) on Sunday night.
According to the 24News HD TV channel, PTI has fielded Mumtaz Mustafa from NA-171, a constituency of RYK and he was willing to forcefully allot the election symbol of another party, the PTI-Nazriyati (Ideological).
The ARO said that the candidate tried to forcefully allot the election symbol of PTI-Nazriyati. He said the PTI candidate and his fellows attacked the assistant commissioner of Liaquatpur and ransacked the office.
The spokesperson of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) said the Chief Election Commission (CEC) took immediate notice in view of the seriousness of the matter.
The ECP spokesperson said the CEC received initial information about the incident from the Punjab Chief Secretary, DRO, Deputy Commissioner (DC) and District Police Officer (DPO) Rahim Yar Khan.
The spokesperson also said that the CEC summoned the Provincial Election Commissioner of Punjab in a personal capacity along with the relevant candidate for a hearing on Tuesday along with the concerned candidate for taking action under the constitution and law.
