Former PTI minister Fawad Chaudhry has said that the party members would stage a ‘nationwide protest’ on February 8 – the day when the general elections were held last year.

Talking to the media outside Adiala jail he said: “PTI founder Imran Khan remains in good spirits despite the challenging circumstances. He (Imran Khan) says Pakistan cannot move forward like this.

He added: “The country is in a state of panic, and this has led to a resurgence in terrorism. The economy has stagnated, but Imran Khan is committed to seeing things improve,"

Imran Khan has declared February 8 as Black Day, with protests planned across the country, he said stressing that Imran Khan has instructed all ticket holders to protest in their constituencies.

He urged the government to create a conducive environment for dialogue to ease political tensions. “Talks must go on. Tension should come down, and that would be good for Pakistan.”

The ex-minister criticized the government’s crackdown on political workers. "Is protesting in the assembly painful, or is it painful to pick up hundreds of people and put them in jail? The government should be lenient toward political prisoners and workers. This approach is better for the country," he said.

Fawad flayed the Rawalpindi Terrorism Court, claiming, "The judge is not listening to anyone. A joint indictment has been filed against all of us. I don't even know what my crime is, yet I have been indicted."
