The sale deed of the old Pakistan embassy building located on R Street in Washington DC has been completed, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.

The process was carried out in light of the instructions of the Federal Government.

In this regard, a ceremony was held at the Lincoln Library, Waldorf Astoria Hotel, Washington. The event was attended by Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett, Congressman Gregory Meeks and former Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson.

The property was purchased by Abdul Hafeez Khan, a Pakistani-American who offered the highest bid of $7.1 million and it was approved by the Federal Cabinet.

Speaking on the occasion, former Congresswoman Eddie Bernice congratulated Hafeez Khan for buying the historic building. She highlighted the achievements of Hafeez Khan and expressed her best wishes for his future achievements.

In his remarks, Abdul Hafeez Khan thanked the Prime Minister of Pakistan and the Federal Cabinet for accepting his offer. He said that as a Pakistani American citizen, it is a matter of pride for him to own a building that has served the Pakistani community for decades.

In its meeting on November 30, 2022, the Federal Cabinet was apprised that the building was not in use for the last two decades and after its diplomatic status was revoked by the US authorities. It was also informed that Pakistan had to pay a lot of taxes and had to bear other maintenance expenses as well. Considering all this, the Cabinet decided to sell the building.

Speaking on the occasion, Pakistan Ambassador Masood Khan expressed his satisfaction that the property has been sold and transferred as per the decision of the Cabinet. He also clarified that no other property was being sold.
