The unconstitutional session in the Punjab Assembly building chaired by Speaker Pervaiz Elahi on Wednesday was adjourned until tomorrow (Thursday), reported 24NewsHD TV channe.

The session will not resume at 1:00 pm on Thursday.

Earlier, the opposition convened its own session with a delay of one hour and forty minutes in Punjab Assembly under the chairmanship of Speaker Pervaiz Elahi on Wednesday. The members all belonging to the opposition also tabled a privileged motion against provincial minister Ataullah Tarar.

On the other hand, the Punjab government is also set to convene a session of the House at Aiwan-e-Iqbal to present provincial budget the same day.

No member of the government was in attendance as the session in the Punjab Assembly was dubbed “unconstitutional”.

It merits a mention here that Punjab Assembly Speaker Pervaiz Elahi conditioned the presentation of the budget with an apology from Punjab chief secretary and inspector general of police (IGP) for allegedly not following the orders during the brawl in the hall of the assembly a few weeks ago.

The Punjab government, however, resolved not to make the chief secretary and the IGP appear before the Punjab Assembly speaker for an apology.

Instead, the government abolished the “independent status” of the Punjab Assembly, bringing it under the domain of the Law Department.

Clipping its powers, the Punjab Assembly has again been made the Law Department’s special institute and from now on the Law Department will issue all the notifications concerning the Punjab Assembly.

Punjab Assembly Secretary Muhammad Khan Bhatti’s services have also been handed over to the Law Department.

Muhammad Khan Bhatti has been serving as Secretary, Provincial Assembly of the Punjab since 2008.
