Lahore Qalandars’ brave show takes them to PSL semis

Lahore Qalandars put a brave show in the face of a tough 187-run target to defeat Multan Sultans by nine wickets in the 29th match of the PSL 2020 at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Sunday.

They now have qualified for the semifinals.

Their hero was Chris Lynn who scored a massive unbeaten 113 runs off just 55 balls studded with eight sixes and 12 fours. His opening partner Fakhar Zaman was the only batsman who got out after scoring 57 runs off 35 balls hitting two sixes and seven fours. Both shared a partnership of 100 runs.

Lahore Qalandars chased down their target in 18.5 overs.

Earlier, Multan Sultans set a daunting task for Lahore Qalandars. Put in to bat first, the Sultans after early tremours amassed 186 runs for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs.

Khushdil Shah was the chief Sultan on Sunday as he hit 79 runs off 29 balls studded with six sixes and five fours. Captain Shan Masood also chipped in with 42 runs off 29 balls. Other mentionable batsmen were RS Bopara 33 and Rohail Nazir 24.

Shaheen Shah Afridi took two wickets for 23 runs in his four overs while D Wiese gave away 24 runs for his two wickets in three overs.

Earlier Lahore Qalandars won the toss and elected to field in the crucial match. The much-awaited 29th match of the PSL was do-or-die for Lahore Qalandars as Multan Sultans and Karachi Kings had already qualified for the semifinals.

After Lahore Qalandars qualified for semifinals, the fourth semifinal slot will be decided after tonight’s match between Karachi Kings and Quetta Gladiators.
