An assistant professor of Karachi’s NED University has made a ventilator out of scrap and its price is very low compared to the ventilators available in the international market.

The innovator, Prof Dr Riaz Uddin, said on Thursday the idea of making a ventilator out of scrap struck his mind after the coronavirus outbreak in Pakistan. He said that Pakistan could export this inexpensive ventilator if the government cooperates with him to make it on a commercial level.

Dr Riaz Uddin has already answered Pakistan Engineering Council’s questions about the ventilator to the level of council’s satisfaction and he is expected to get permission soon to make these ventilators on a large scale.

Pakistan, like most countries in the world, is struggling to contain coronavirus. As of May 14, the number of infections has topped 37,000 with over 800 deaths across Pakistan despite the fact that most parts of the country have been under a lockdown for several weeks.
