As many as 153 colleges in Karachi, boasting billions in annual budgets, have been deemed non-standard by the Provincial Department of College Education, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Wednesday.

This critical evaluation comes after a sudden and extensive inspection carried out by the Caretaker Chief Minister of Sindh, resulting in a comprehensive report.

The inspection initiative was prompted by the directives of the Caretaker Chief Minister of Sindh, aiming to assess the quality and standards of government colleges in the region. Shockingly, the report reveals that a substantial 55% of these institutions fall into the substandard category.

Among the classified categories, A-category colleges emerge as the most alarming, characterized by a lack of essential resources such as teachers, labs, and even basic library books. Notably, several colleges in Landhi and Korangi find themselves in this precarious classification.

Contrastingly, B-category government colleges fare slightly better, according to the report, while a mere 88 government colleges are placed in the third tier, denoted as C category, indicating the presence of all necessary facilities.

Even the prestigious DJ Science College finds itself in the beleaguered A category, reflecting the widespread concerns about educational standards in the region.

Responding to the findings, DG Colleges, Sulaiman Syal, has initiated on-site visits, reviewing facilities and addressing immediate problems on the spot.
