Counsel for Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday appealed to an accountability court (AC) in Lahore not to delay the trial of suspects already awaiting justice in the Ashiana Housing reference for the last several years because of the bail applications filed by two new suspects in the case, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
“These new suspects may face a trial separately if the interrogators deem it fit,” Amjad Pervaiz Advocate argued.
The counsel representing the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), on the occasion, sought time from judge Sajid Ali Awan for submitting an inquiry report on the bail pleas filed by these suspects namely Nadeem Zia Pirzada and Kamran Kiani.
“Now when two new persons are part of the investigations, it is prayed to the court not to stop the trial of those already awaiting court’s verdict in the reference,” PM Shehbaz’s lawyer pleaded.
He said that the NAB could file a separate reference against the new suspects.
Ahad Cheema, co-suspect in the case, appeared in the court, while the prime minister’s pleader Anwaar Hussain appeared in the court on his behalf.
Later, the court adjourned hearing of the case until October 29, 2022.
