The motorway gang-rape victim identified two accused Abid Ali and Shafqat during identification parade on Tuesday.
According to the sources, the victim woman demanded the prime minister to hang the rapists publicly after identifying the accused. Police sent photos of the accused to the victim woman for identification purpose. Woman identified both the accused Abid Ali and Shafqat.
The horrific gang rape of a woman in front of her children on Lahore-Sialkot motorway last week shocked the entire nation and triggered countrywide outrage.
Third accused arrested
Punjab Police on Tuesday said third accused in the motorway gang-rape incident, namely Iqbal aka Bala Mistri, has been arrested from Chichawatni, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The arrest of Bala Mistri came on the information provided by another accused Shafqat. The main accused, Abid Ali, is still on large. According to the police, Bala Mistri was using 10 mobile phone SIMs on his CNIC. Lahore Police have now shifted the accused Bala Mistri to Lahore.
As per co-accused Shafqat’s initial statement, Bala Mistri was there at the spot for the robbery but he went back before the robbery and gang-rape occurred. Punjab Police said two FIRs were lodged against the main accused Abid Ali and co-accused Shafqat in the Factory Area of Sheikhupura.
Arrested co-accused Shafqat who has now confessed before the police shared startling revelations about the gang-rape. He said Abid called Shafqat and Bala Mistri and asked them to come to Lahore to carry out the robbery.
PM supports public hanging of rapists
Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Monday that he would support public hanging of rapists, but it would not be acceptable internationally. Talking to a private news channel, the prime minister said better policing, registration of criminals, legislation and castration of rapists through chemicals or surgery could help curb the increasing rate of sex crimes in Pakistan.
