To preempt protests against the privatisation of state-owned power companies, the federal government has enforced the Essential Services Act for six months in Distribution Companies (Discos), National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC), and Generation Companies (Gencos).

This act prohibits all forms of protests, strikes, and union activities within the power sector.

The government has warned that any violation of the Essential Services Act will result in strict action across all power sector institutions.

This move is seen as a strategic step to maintain order and prevent disruption as the privatisation process moves forward.
