International Non-Governmental Organization Action Against Hunger (ACF) Country Director Jennifer Ankrom-Khan on Thursday said that ACF has been working to end poverty globally and within Pakistan as well as enhancing nutrition.

Speaking in 24NewsHD TV channel’s programme 24@9, Jennifer said, “Around one in two children is suffering from one or other form of hunger in Pakistan including stunting and general food insecurity and this was before the crisis.”

“We have been working alongside with the government and communities in order to respond to their needs. In Pakistan we have been working with European Union in eight Sindh districts as outreach treatment and change in the behaviour of the people so that they no longer suffer from the hunger.”

Commenting on the COVID-19 impact on the economy, she said, “One aspect is the repercussions of the coronavirus on people due to lockdown. Our focus is that nutrition projects must go on as we are particularly working with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh governments on it.”

Jennifer said that ACF has ensured all protective measures for its staff and people while helping the communities.

She said the biggest challenge so far was to know about the coronavirus and role of international non-governmental organizations in Pakistan. The other side was that communities are facing the things which they have never faced before.

Jennifer said Pakistan is among the lower-income medium country facing a different type of crisis. “ACF is working in Pakistan to give cash grants and by helping communities to find their solution themselves. The organized communities would respond better to the crisis.”

“When people go to fields obviously due to coronavirus but they can organize themselves in villages and know about the symptoms of COVID-19 and what they should do when the symptoms arrived. She said in Pakistan areas our teams spreading awareness as workers have no choice but to go into the field to work and it is essential to support them in their tasks while protecting them from contamination and maximum know about COVID-19.”

ACF is working for communities to make sure how they could not face minimum socio-economic challenges.

She said her organization was working directly in France and facing similar kind of challenges.

Action Contre La Faim (Action Against Hunger) is a France based non-governmental organisation that has been fighting hunger in the world for almost 40 years.
