An hour before the voting on no-confidence motion against Deputy Speaker Qasim Khan Suri was to be held in National Assembly today (Saturday), he tendered his resignation, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Following the footsteps of his party’s former speaker Asad Qaiser, Deputy Speaker Suri, too, resigned from his post ahead of voting on no-trust motion in today’s sitting of the assembly.

According to sources, the National Assembly secretary office has received his resignation.

Suri says his resignation shows his commitment to PTI’s vision

Qasim Suri said the resignation reflected his commitment to his party’s vision and democracy. “There can be no compromise on the independence and integrity of Pakistan. And will go to any extent for the defence of the country,” he said in a statement he issued soon after quitting the post.

The resignation given by Suri was in line with the PTI’s policy that its members of the National Assembly would not sit on their seats following the passage of a no-trust motion against its government because that would amount to acquiescing to what it called the ‘imported government’.

Earlier, the session of National Assembly has been convened today (Saturday) at 12 noon to hold voting on the no-confidence motion against Deputy Speaker Qasim Khan Suri. After Suri's resignation, there was no need to hold voting now.
