Following the latest hearing in the Iddat case involving PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi, Secretary Information of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Rauf Hassan, Monday expressed dismay over what he described as deliberate delay tactics and challenges faced within the judicial system, reported 24NewsHd TV channel.
During a press conference held after the hearing, Rauf Hassan highlighted the frustrations encountered during the proceedings.
He emphasized the detrimental impact of such delays on the state and the functioning of the judicial system, stating, "There is no limit when the state suffers a decline."
Drawing attention to the conduct of the proceedings, Hassan criticized the actions of certain individuals, alleging that efforts were made to obstruct the process.
He pointed out instances where the appearance of a particular lawyer, Rizwan Abbasi, whom he dubbed as a ‘tout’, led to further delays and disruptions.
Naeem Haider Panjhota, a member of PTI's legal team, echoed these sentiments, expressing concerns over the apparent use of delaying tactics and the involvement of specific individuals not aligned with the state's interests.
Panjhota emphasized the need for a fair and expedited trial, highlighting the impact of prolonged proceedings on individuals involved, including Bushra Bibi, who missed celebrating Eid at home due to the delays.
The PTI representatives raised questions regarding the conduct of the legal proceedings, particularly the behavior of Abbasi and his sudden departure from the court during critical moments.
He alleged that Abbasi, who was used to give extensive arguments during the case trial in Aediala Jail for upto 14 hours in a day, but now he is running away from the hearing and trying to delay the case on the pretext of being unprepared.
He said Khan was sentenced in three case within five days. He questioned when the justice will be served as Abbasi was again successful in postponing the hearing for another fortnight.
He alleged that the court again appeared to be under pressure today.
