Punjab Education Initiative Management Authority (PEIMA) has cancelled licenses of more than 1,600 partner schools under the guise of new conditions, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.

According to sources, a large number of the cancelled licenses are of schools given to NGOs and individuals.

Peima has asked for applications by May 10 to re-contract the aforementioned schools on contract.

A fee of Rs10,000 has also been fixed for submitting the application.

Provincial Convener Peima schools Licensees Sadaqat Hussain Khan Lodhi said if schools are given on political grounds above merit, it will not be acceptable in any case.

He said the licensees spent millions of rupees to make the schools functional in the 3-year contract.

Provincial Convener Peima Schools Licensee Punjab said it is unfair to the partner schools to cancel the license by tightening the conditions at the end of the 3-year contract.

He demanded that the Peima authorities should review the matter and restore the license.

A chance must be given to the partner schools by restoring the license, Sadaqat Hussain Lodhi said.

He warned if the demands are not accepted, the license holders will be forced to protest.
