Court acquits seven convicts in ex-PM Shaukat Aziz attack case

The Lahore High Court on Wednesday acquitted all the seven accused in a case regarding attack on former prime minister Shaukat Aziz, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) had awarded death sentence to four accused and life term to three others on May 22, 2006. However, the LHC Rawalpindi Bench overturned the verdict ruling the prosecution failed to prove the case.

The verdict was announced by a divisional bench consisting of Justice Shahid Mahmood Abbasi and Justice Sadiq Mahmood Khurram.

Seven people had been killed and 43 injured in a suicide attack on former prime minister Shaukat Aziz on July 39, 2004 in Attock.

The ATC had handed down death sentences to four people namely: Qari Ahmad Khan, Maulvi Siddique, Noor Badshah and Muhammad Zubair. It had also awarded life terms to three real brothers: Manan, Basit and Nisar Ahmad.
