Production of cars, jeeps and other vehicles has decreased further in Pakistan in 2020.
According to an official report released by the Pakistan Automotive Association, production of automobiles in Pakistan decreased by 23 percent in the first four months of the ongoing financial year (2020-21) compared to the same period in 2019. Production of automobiles in Pakistan has decreased by 62 percent in two years.
The official report says that 544,041 cars and jeeps were manufactured in Pakistan in the first four months of the ongoing fiscal year. This year’s production has been 5,731 vehicles less than the production in 2019 and 42,107 vehicles less than the production in 2018. The number of trucks produced this year is 10.5 percent less than the number of trucks produced last year and 62 percent less than 2018. Production of buses this year decreased by 23 percent compared to 2019 and 53 percent compared to 2018.
However, the production of motorcycles and tri-wheelers increased by 15 percent this year, but this number decreased by 10 percent compared to the number of such vehicles produced in 2018. At least 811,000 motorcycles and tri-wheelers were produced this year. This number is 109,000 higher than the last year.
Car sales increased by 13 percent this year compared to 2019, but decreased by 36.5 percent compared to 2018. The total number of cars sold in the first five months of the current fiscal years is 55,779. As many as 87,897 cars were sold in the same period in 2018.
