PTI lawmakers stage protest against Swati’s arrest, demands production order for him

The Senate has approved the amended Foreign Investment (Promotion and Protection) Bill, 2022 aimed to protect investors from unnecessary court proceedings, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Friday.

The amended bill was presented in the Senate by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar. The bill has been approved twice this week.

The Foreign Investment (Promotion and Protection) Bill was amended to address the reservations of allies.

Earlier, the upper house of the parliament had passed the Foreign Investment (Promotion and Protection) Bill, 2022, on Monday last.

Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar on behalf of Minister for Finance and Revenue Mohammad Ishaq Dar moved the bill in the house which was part of the Senate’s supplementary agenda.

Speaking in the house, he said that foreign investment was very important for the country to progress.

PTI’s protest for Azam Swati

In a separate development, the opposition staged a protest demonstration in favor of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Azam Swati during a session held in the senate and raised slogans demanding the issuance of production orders for him. 

The PTI leaders surrounded the chairman's dice and raised slogans demanding the release of Azam Swati. 

The session of the senate has been adjourned for an indefinite period.
