Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) representatives demanded the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) scrutinize the ‘audio tape’ maligning the judiciary.

According to the 24News HD TV channel, PBC Vice-Chairman Haroon-ur-Rashid and Executive Committee Chairman Hassan Raza Pasha showed their serious concerns about the viral ‘audio tape’ on social media.

In the statement issued here on Thursday, they have shown their serious concerns with regard to the image of the superior Judiciary and expressed that the conduct and demeanour of Hon'ble Judges of the superior Judiciary must be seen as neutral and impartial.

Furthermore, they added that there should not be any impression that they are favouring or spokesman of any Political party and they should avoid with respect to remarks upon any political matter.

They said in event of such an impression will shake the confidence of the public at large as well as the lawyers' community and will damage the image of the judiciary as well.

They expressed that Hon'ble Judges should avoid commenting whereby any constitutional office is ridiculed and there should not be any impression that Hon'ble Judges have presumed the role of prosecutor, petitioner or defendant.

They also demanded from the Hon'ble Chief Justice of Pakistan who is head of the Supreme Judicial Council as well that there should be a thorough scrutiny and investigation of audio viral on social media regarding the fixation of a case before a particular bench or a Hon'ble Judge of the Supreme Court.

They added if after scrutiny it is found that the audio is fake that action should be taken against responsible persons who made it viral and prepared. However, if it is found genuine then action should be taken according to Article 209 of the Constitution.
