Former interior minister and Awami Muslim League (AML) Chief Sheikh Rashid was released from Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail on Thursday after a period of 15 days, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Talking to the media after his release, he said that he was not afraid from anybody. “I still stand by the truth, and I still support Imran Khan,” he said categorically.
He said how ironical it was that PML-N Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz said that it was not the coalition government, but somebody else, who called the shots in the country.
Rashid also ridiculed the claim often made by the PML-N leaders that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif worked late at night, saying had that been the case, prices of petrol and other items would not have risen sharply.
He said it was his belief that after The Almighty Allah, these were the courts and elections which could save Pakistan.
Former minister said he had left half of his luggage in the jail behind. “And if Imran gives a call, I am ready to go to the jail again,” he said.
Rashid said he saluted the chief justice of Pakistan and the chief justice of the Lahore High Court.
The veteran politician announced he would address a public gathering outside Lal Haveli at 3:00 PM tomorrow.
Former minister did not forget to thank media, and said he did not have ill-will against any journalist or a media group.
Former interior minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed was arrested and taken to the Aabpara Police Station in Islamabad in the wee hours of Thursday (February 2, 2023).
The dramatic development came after the Islamabad Capital police issued a final warning to the AML leader to appear before it over a complaint lodged against him.
There were reports that Sheikh Rashid was arrested from his residence, but other reports suggested that he was arrested from the Murree Motorway.
Sheikh Rashid also shared his picture on his Twitter account in which he can be seen sitting in the Abpara Police Station, Islamabad in a happy mood and smoking cigar.
