A district and session court on Monday could not indict Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the illegal marriage case and deferred it till tomorrow (Tuesday) due to the absence of Bushra Bibi.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the hearing was conducted by Senior Civil Judge Qudratullah at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.
During the hearing, PTI's founder was present, but Bushra Bibi did not appear again.
Her lawyers filed a request for her exemption from attendance on medical grounds.
Opposition to this request was expressed by the plaintiff's lawyer, Raja Rizwan Abbasi, citing that the medical report was not presented during this hearing.
Rizwan Abbasi argued that the accused was not taking the case seriously and requested that the request for immunity be rejected, and an arrest warrant be issued.
Usman Gul, the defence counsel of Bushra Bibi pleaded with the court that a medical report would be submitted if an order was given.
The PTI founder Imran Khan stated during the hearing that he had no connection with Bushra Bibi and did not know her whereabouts.
“He could have arranged everything if he had been allowed to call her from any landline telephone the night before,” he uttered.
Assurance of Bushra Bibi's presence at the next hearing was given by her lawyers, and the court accepted the request for exemption from attendance based on this assurance.
The hearing of the illegal marriage case was adjourned till tomorrow (Tuesday).
