A special court on Monday conducted a cipher trial against Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI), and former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi at Adiala jail, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.
The cipher case revolves around a diplomatic document that the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) claims was never returned by Imran Khan.
PTI asserts that the document contains a threat from the United States to remove Imran as the prime minister.
Special Court Judge Abul Hasanat Muhammad Zulqarnain presided over the hearing. Noted lawyers Ali Bukhari, Syed Ali Zafar, Barrister Gohar, Khalid Yusuf Chaudhry, and Umair Niazi appeared before the court from both accused.
The special prosecutor Raja Rizwan Abbasi and Zulfiqar Abbas Naqvi appeared in court. Former Prime Minister Imran Khan and Shah Mehmood Qureshi were also produced in the court.
During the hearing, statements from four prosecution witnesses were recorded, including Iqra Ashraf, Imran Sajid, Shamoon Qaiser, and Haseeb bin Aziz.
Statements of more prosecution witnesses will be recorded at the next hearing.
The hearing of the cipher case was adjourned till tomorrow (Tuesday).
