ECP suspends membership of 139 MPs, MPAs for failing to file IT returns

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday suspended the membership of 139 members of the parliament (MPs) as well as members of provincial assemblies, including that of Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, for failing to file their Income Tax returns, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The ECP suspended the membership of 16 MNAs, including Mian Muhammad Azhar, Tariq Bashir Cheema, Ali Qasim Gillani and Akhtar Mengal.
It also suspended the membership of Senator Qasim Roonjho and Senator Abdul Qudoos.
Besides that, it suspended the membership of 68 MPAs in the Punjab Assembly, 15 MPAs in the Sindh Assembly, 33 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly and five in Balochistan Assembly.
The membership of MPAs Ghazeen Abbasi, Farhat Abbas and Javed Kausar was suspended.
