Accepting the bail bonds deposited by former Punjab chief minister and PTI President Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, FIA’s Banking Court in Lahore on Saturday issued the Robkar for his release, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
During the hearing, FIA’s lawyer argued that Rasikh, being the son of Elahi, could not be the guarantor for his father. “He is himself a suspect in the case, and is awaiting trial,” he added.
On the other hand, counsel for Elahi told the court that he had already deposited the money for the bail of his client. “It was Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif who had deposited the bail bond on behalf of his brother Nawaz Sharif,” he said.
However, the court cut him short and said that these were not the arguments for securing the bail.
The Lahore High Court (LHC) had yesterday (Friday, July 14, 2023) barred the authorities from arresting former Punjab chief minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi in ‘unknown cases’.
According to details, the LHC announced the reserved judgment on the petition filed by the former Punjab chief minister.
Pronouncing the verdict, LHC judge Justice Muhammad Amjad Rafiq barred the authorities from arresting Elahi in ‘unknown cases’, including in relation to inquiries of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
Three days early on July 11, a banking court had granted bail to Pervaiz Elahi in a suspicious transactions case.
The banking court approved PTI president’s bail in the case lodged by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). The PTI president had been directed to submit surety bonds worth Rs500,000.
