Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and former president Asif Ali Zardari held a meeting at the residence of the PM in the Model Town area of Lahore on Saturday.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, Shehbaz accorded a warm welcome to Asif Ali Zardari.
Sources said the two leaders deliberated upon the ongoing political situation and the matters of caretaker setup and National Assembly dissolution.
They fully agreed to conduct the election on time, the insiders said, adding that they stressed the delay in the election won’t be tolerated under any circumstances.
Asif Ali Zardari suggested dissolving the assembly in the second week of August, the sources said, adding that Shehbaz Sharif assured him of taking other allies into confidence on the proposal.
The insiders said the two leaders laid stress on bringing in a politician instead of a bureaucrat as the caretaker prime minister.
