The Punjab government has requested the federal interior ministry to suspend mobile phone services during the major mourning processions in the province on Muharram 9 and 10, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.
According to sources, the Punjab Home Department through a letter written on Saturday requested the federal ministry to mull blocking the cellular services in the major cities of the province during the central procession within the limit of 300 yards on Muharram 9 and 10 for security purposes.
On the 9th and 10th of Muharram, the mobile service will stop on the route of the main processions. Mobile service will be closed within three hundred yards of the procession, the letter says. Mobile jammers would be used to monitor the mourning processions.
