Police are on a high alert across Punjab as over 65,000 personnel and officers will perform security duties today (9th of Muharram), reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. Usman Anwar has said that only in Lahore, over 10,000 personnel and officers will guard mourning processions ad majalis to be held in remembrance of the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and members of his family at Karbala.
He has said that the enforcement of section 144 will be ensured at all costs.
Emphasizing inter-sectarian harmony, the IGP urged all and sundry to keep an eye on the people bent upon creating a law and order situation in the province.
He has informed that the RPOs, CPOs, and the DPOs are monitoring the security arrangements themselves.
Punjab’s top police official has said that 1,686 mourning processions will be taken out across the province, including Lahore, today. “Similarly, 3,853 majalis will be held,” he has said, adding, “Out of these 194 processions and 345 majalis fall in category-A.”
Today, the IGP has explained, 79 processions will be taken out in Lahore alone, while 378 majalis will be held. “Out of these 24 processions and 46 majalis fall in category-A,” he has informed.
