Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin has said the IMF’s behaviour towards Pakistan is not friendly, reported 24News HD TV channel on Wednesday.

Talking to the participants of the Senate Standing Committee on Finance meeting, the minister said that the IMF wanted an immediate increase in electricity and gas tariffs.

He said that the government had obtained information of 7.5 million tax evaders. He said that the government would send notices to the tax evaders. He said a tax audit of the taxpayers would also be conducted by a third party. 

Tarin said that the tax was not being collected from businesses worth Rs1,000 billion in the country. He said that the shopkeeper should register the receipt system with the FBR. He further said that the government would soon introduce a reward scheme to prevent sales tax evasion, adding that in order to pay off the debts, the government needed to take more loans. He said the former government borrowed 10 billion dollars as short-term loans.
