Esther Perez Ruiz, IMF’s Resident Representative for Pakistan, said in a statement on Thursday that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) did not ask Pakistan to renegotiate CPEC IPP contracts, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

She stated that such claims were simply untrue.

She added that the IMF supported the Pakistani government’s multipronged strategy to restore energy sector viability which shared the burden across all the stakeholders including government, producers and consumers.

It is to be noted here that a news item took rounds in the media that the IMF has asked Pakistan to renegotiate the CPEC energy deals before making payments of around Rs300 billion to the Chinese power plants.
