The authorities in Occupied Kashmir have revealed that 2,157 people including travellers in contact with the suspected coronavirus have been put under surveillance in the territory.
As many as 1,829 people are under home quarantine and 29 are in hospital quarantine while 131 are under home surveillance, KMS reported. The reports further said that 101 samples had been sent for testing, of which 87 tested as negative and only two cases had tested positive, so far while as reports of 12 cases are awaited.
Meanwhile, 168 persons have completed their 28 days surveillance period.
The news came a day after Pakistan’s Special Assistant to PM on Health Dr Zafar Mirza called for an end to the lockdown imposed in India-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, given the threats posed by the coronavirus pandemic.
While addressing the heads of member states, Mirza noted that while the novel coronavirus has been declared a pandemic, “it has been deemed controllable as well”. He acknowledged that the South Asian region, which houses several mega-cities and one-fifth of the world’s population, was at risk of the virus spreading further as each of the Saarc countries has reported positive cases.
