Justice Mazahir Naqvi takes oath as Supreme Court judge

Lahore High Court (LHC) judge Justice Sayyed Mazahir Ali Akbar Naqvi was sworn in as judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday.

Honourable Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Gulzar Ahmed administered the oath of office to honourable Mr Justice Sayyed Mazahir Ali Akbar Naqvi, Judge Lahore High Court, Lahore, as judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan at a ceremony at the apex court building in Islamabad.

Justice Mazahir Naqvi filled the seat that was left vacant by the departure of the Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Asif Saeed Khosa.

Earlier on Thursday, the Parliamentary Committee for Appointment of Judges had endorsed elevation of Justice Mazahir Naqvi to the Supreme Court. The parliamentary committee unanimously approved Judicial Commission of Pakistan’s (JCP) recommendation for Justice Mazahir Ali Naqvi and also praised his performance as LHC judge.

On March 4 last, the JCP had recommended the elevation of Justice Naqvi to the apex court. Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Gulzar Ahmed chaired the meeting of the JCP recommending the name of Justice Naqvi.
