Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Senator Saleem Mandviwalla said on Tuesday that demanding resignations of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) officials by the government showed that the latter was in a state of jittery, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Talking to journalists in Islamabad, he said it was not right to ask election commission members to resign since it had become clear that Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) candidate for the seat of Senate chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani had won the election.

“I have no idea why presiding officer Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah rejected the votes,” the senator said.

“If the government has any grievances, then it should go to the court,” he advised.

When asked whether PPP concurred with former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif when he said that the opposition parties should resign from the assemblies, Mandviwalla said it had always been PPP’s contention that the PDM parties should never give up the forum of parliament.
