NDMA issues heatwave alert for Punjab and Sindh

National Disaster Management Authority has issued heatwave alert during the month of May and June 2024 for the Punjab and Sindh province, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.


According to the forecast, Interior Sindh districts Umarkot, Tharparkar, Tando Allahyar, Matiyari and Sanghar, while Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan districts in Punjab are at risk of hea  t wave which can affect humans and other living beings as well.


The first spell of heat wave is expected during May 15-30 and during these day the temperature may go up to 40 degrees.


The first spell will last for 2 to 3 days while the second spell of heatwave will start at the end of May which will last for 4 to 5 days.


According to NDMA, the temperature is likely to go up to 45 degrees in the month of June, due to which a third spell of heat wave is expected during the first ten days of June which will affect Tharparkar, Umarkot, Sanghar, Badin, Khairpur. The third spell is likely to last for 3 to 5 days.


Meanwhile Lahore on Wednesday experienced scorching temperatures, reaching a sweltering 43 degrees Celsius, as reported by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).


The city’s minimum temperature is expected to hover around 26 degrees Celsius, with no relief anticipated in the form of rainfall for the upcoming week.


Chief Meteorologist Shahid Abbas warns that temperatures may soar even higher, potentially crossing the 43-degree Celsius mark in the days ahead.


The healthcare professionals emphasize the importance of staying hydrated and taking protective measures, such as wearing head coverings, to prevent heat-related illnesses and dehydration.


The residents are urged to prioritize their health by minimizing sun exposure and seeking shade whenever possible.
