The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Wednesday conducted a raid on the Pakistan Nursing Council (PNC) Islamabad office to take the record in the custody, reported 24NEewsHD TV channel.
The FIA has initiated an investigation against the illegal nursing schools and colleges scandal. The federal agency is also probing irregularities being committed by Pakistan Nursing Council.
Scores of illegal nursing schools and colleges are functioning in the country in connivance with the PNC officials and extorting money from the aspirants. These institutes are involved in charging heavy fees. Most of the institutes lack registration, proper building infrastructure, staff, and other facilities. The degree offered by these colleges is not acceptable. After surfing the scandal, the government decided to act against the ghost schools and colleges.
Now the health ministry claimed that all illegal nursing colleges and schools would be shut down with immediate effects once the inspections and surprise visits of the council are completed in order to thoroughly examine the nursing educational institutions across the country.
The sources said that after the FIA’s involvement in the scam, major arrests are expected in the next few days. “The owners of ghost colleges built in different areas of Karachi, Peshawar, and Lahore will also be arrested. All those officers and officials of the Pakistan Nursing Council who are involved in this disgraceful business are also expected to be arrested, they added.
