A clash between police and activists of a religious party Tehreek-e-Labaik Pakistan (TLP) late Sunday continued at Havelian, Abbottabad district, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
According to the initial reports, as many as eight police personnel were injured in firing and stone-pelting incidents.
Police continued baton charging and shelling at the workers to disperse them. However, at least 12 workers received injuries and were shifted to nearby hospitals. Rescue 1122 has reached the scene of fear of casualties in the clash.
The procession of TLP led by Saad Rizvi reached Chamba Bridge, Haripur. District administration of Abbottabad and Haripur closed all internal and external routes of Haripur and Havelian city on the arrival of Saad Rizvi.
The workers removed the container placed on the Chamba bridge and started entering the boundaries of Tehsil Havelian of Abbottabad district.
The activities of TLP alleged that the Haripur police started shelling the workers. They alleged that the Haripur police are doing heavy shelling to disperse the protestors. The workers of TLP hurled stones at the police and pelted them with slingshots.
Earlier, negotiations between the leaders of TLP Haripur and the police failed. After the failure of negotiations on the part of Haripur police, fierce clashes started on Chamba Bridge. Haripur, many police personnel including an Inspector seriously injured.
According to police sources, in view of the security situation, Frontier Constabulary (FC) and Pak Army troops will perform duties as a quick response force to deal with any emergency situation.
