The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight operations are feared to be suspended completely as the financial crisis has deepened, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.
According to the PIA administration, the organisation urgently needs Rs7 billion to continue its operation.
In this regard, the General Manager (GM) Funds Management wrote a letter and appealed Aviation Division and Ministry of Aviation for help.
Regardless of the unavailability of funds, the banks have not yet released the money despite the government’s guarantee.
The PIA administration appealed that the government should direct the banks to release Rs7 billion worth of funds immediately.
The administration further requested the Ministry of Finance should take immediate steps and direct the banks in this regard.
PIA GM Funds Management also informed the Ministry of Aviation in writing about the situation.
“If the funds are not paid immediately, there is a possibility that the operation of PIA will be stopped,” the letter said.
The letter revealed that IATA services are also likely to be shut down at any time due to non-payment.
The PSO also stopped fuel supply to the PIA which is affecting the operation of the flights, the letter revealed further.
“The FBR has also received payment notices, but all in vain,” the letter concludes.
