The Punjab government has decided to provide sugar at Rs 140 per kg to the masses through utility stores in the Punjab province, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Saturday.

This initiative, approved in a special meeting presided over by caretaker Chief Minister Punjab Mohsin Naqvi, seeks to address the rising cost of living and ensure transparency in the distribution of essential goods.

Under this program, the Punjab government will facilitate the sale of sugar at the subsidized rate of 140 rupees per kilogram through 2,100 utility stores and 750 franchised utility stores across the province. This move is expected to alleviate the financial burden on households, particularly in light of increasing sugar prices.

In order to ensure transparency, the consumers are asked to bring their CNIC for buying sugar at utility stores and every family can buy maximum 5 kg sugar in a month.

The special meeting was attended by several key figures, including Federal Minister of Industry and Commerce Gohar Ejaz, Ministers SM Tanveer and Ibrahim Hasan Murad, as well as eminent industrialist Fawad Mukhtar. Chief Secretary, Secretary Finance Secretary, MD Utility Store Muhammad Ali Aamir, and other officials.
